Well you know what they say: the autodidact is the very best kind of self-taught man.

I could feel the feelz in this one.

In my ken you are substack's most soulful scribbler--and nobody writes funnier captions.

Thanks for suggesting I make a start on here myself. I might not have bothered if you hadn't.

Good on ya; keep it up.

Also wanted to say: yours was the first or second substack I read. You hooked me in man. Now I'm addicted to Facebook-with-brains.

I was once that kid, then lo and behold, a woman said she loved me. My life has never been the same since and we have 11 children together. I hope you are able to find what I have found.

Thank you. I found you through John Carter and I enjoy your work.

I see you followed me. I'm sure to disappoint. I sometimes display brief flashes of brilliance, but always surrounded by eons of stupidity. 😁

Beautiful. I have followed you for most, maybe all, of my time on Substack, and every post has amply rewarded me as a reader. Thank you so much for your work.

Have you read Kirkegaard's "Fear and Trembling?" He talks of the Knight of Faith. He presents four possible paths Abraham might have taken. And concludes that personal passion and action is the only possible sane choice. It's worth reading.

I’m sorry that your dad is doing poorly. I may not have a lot of insight into his condition, but if you have some questions or want a deeper dive into his condition, hit me up.

Lincoln said there is no difference between those who don’t read and those who can’t read. We are an illiterate nation with knowledge of only superficialities. We know no history, or civics. No poetry. It is all so very sad.

Well deserved congratulations on passing your first year with so much growth to say for it. It's very much deserved, good sir. Here's looking forward to another year, and yet more after that.

Congratulations on completing your first year and becoming so well established here in that short span of time. I'm not quite 4 months in yet, but I like it here. Onward!

Hi Librarian,

I've been posting for about five months , and beginning to wonder why so many people write anonymously. It never occurred to me to do so. My Substack has a focus, CRISIS, but I have always written on a very wide range of subjects, and will continue to do so. I hope those focused on the crisis in America, they will stay with me with human behavior / human interest.

Over 50 years ago, when books were too expensive for my family, we had a completely inadequate local library. With little space, there were stacks of books on the floor. Perfect for my 9 year old self.

It was an entry into a world that stretched to the future and anchored in the past.

I owe my success in life, as a surgeon and having pleasure in learning every day, to my library, family and my Lord.

DVD's had no role in my learning. But I am old.

It’s amazing what can be accomplished through books and the will to read them. I’ve had teacher-trainers- grown women who are supposedly educated, tell me that knowing things is irrelevant because Google is a thing now. What a sad way to look at the life of the mind.

Congratulations on all you’ve done.
